Albany Democrat-Herald cuts editor at paper since 1978
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — Hasso Hering, editor of the Albany Democrat-Herald since 1978, is leaving the paper Friday in a cost-cutting move.
The paper reports that Mike McInally, editor of its sister publication, the Corvallis Gazette-Times, will assume editing duties at the Democrat-Herald as well.
Both papers are owned by Lee Enterprises. Rick Parrish, regional publisher for Lee's Northwest properties, called it a "hard decision" that reflects a struggling economy. McInally said there are no plans to combine the papers.
The 68-year-old Hering has been known for a lively editorial page, helping convert the paper to morning publication, work on a study of the Legislature that helped lead to annual sessions, and his "D-H Today" online videos. They're filmed with a small camera he holds himself to preview stories in the paper.

I have read both papers and I think they cut the wrong one.
When you have a company which was selling for $40.00 per share 8 years ago but then dropped to $0.60 a share prior to going into bankruptcy last year and is now at $1.49 per share, cost-cutting makes sense.Â
Would have made more sense if it had been done in 1979!
