PORTLAND, Ore. - Black Friday may be the busiest shopping day of the year, but package shippers say Monday, Dec 10, is the biggest shipping day for their businesses this year.
The FedEx shipping hub in Troutdale, Oregon, was bustling with activity Monday morning. The facility will process about 30,000 packages a day for the next week, a FedEx spokesman said.
FedEx expects to process about 19 million packages overall on Monday, making it their busiest day ever. Last year, FedEx shipped 17 million packages at this time, he said.
Many people are shipping packages today and this week after wrapping up holiday shopping over the weekend.
The U.S. Postal Service is hoping customers will get their packages in the mail by Dec. 15 for delivery in time for Christmas.
FedEx and UPS urge customers to make sure they have packages ready to go by Dec. 17.
