Man takes his motor repair biz to new green level

EUGENE, Ore. -- With everyone talking about 'going green,' a local man has taken it in a whole new direction with an unexpected business.

Steve Child has been a mechanic for 17 years.

Afflicted with heart problems and wanting to reduce his carbon footprint, he closed the auto shop door and hitched a Tupperware toolbox to his bike.

He calls his business Sun Dreams Auto, and says he'll bring his mobile mechanic cart to your door for $45 per hour.

Child says working on motors is soothing and riding bicycles has always been a passion, it just so happens that he gets paid to do what he loves.

Child says he's tested his mobile mechanic business by timing a bike ride to an appointment and comparing the same route, arriving by automobile. "It's only a difference of ten minutes to get anywhere in Eugene," he said. "So, it just makes sense here," Child said.
