Shocking new cell case gives phones a 'personal safety app'

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Every smart phone case claims to keep your device protected, but the makers of one case take protection a step further.
The Yellow Jacket cellphone stun gun case can be used to defend yourself in serious situations.
The Baton Rouge-based company said that their cases have already sparked interest on the internet.
Both the consumers and creators of the device say they actually work, delivering a 650k-volt shock through the top of the case.
Baton Rouge police said that users should get trained on proper techniques, or the expensive gadget might not be as effective as the company claims.
“Learn how to use it, learn the in's and out's of how to use it, so when it comes time to needing it, you're proficient at it and you're within the letter of the law,” said Corporal Tommy Stubbs of the Baton Rouge Police Department.
“You don't want to pull out your Yellow Jacket for the first time when you really need it. You want to know how this would work. How you would use it,” Cpl. Stubbs added.
The Yellow Jacket case is currently only offered for the IPhone 4, however the creators said they are working on a version for Android models and the IPhone 5.
Yellow Jacket also said they are developing a more robust version for police use.
I watched a news story about a young girl getting a stun gun used on her so her kidnapper could grab her. How convenient for thugs to whip out their phones to an unexpected victim cause cell phones normally aren't weapons.
That's cool going to have to get me one, after they put a stupid people sticker on it saying don't let your kids play with it and don't point at your self.
What if a baby or small child got ahold of this!
Need more information. Some kind of safety device on it? interesting concept. Yeah, i'm not seeing a lot of good here.
So first you have to turn it on, then you have to remove the prong shields before it can be used. I understand the need for safety on a device that attaches to something that most people jam in a pocket or purse, but at the same time it make the device totally useless unless you have time to take those extra steps. I can only imagine how many people would go to deploy this device in a stressful situation only to discover they forgot to flip the switch to "on" or remove the prong covers. Neat idea, poor execution on this attempt.
@Twistthewrist I've never even seen on in person but don't all stun guns have to be turned on for use?Â
@ntk0716 Depends on the model, not all stun guns are created equal. Some do use an "on/off" switch, some have a grip like safety where two buttons (on opposite sides of the grip) have to be squeezed at the same time to activate and others require X amount of pressure to be pushed against the prods (thus completing a circuit) to activate.Â
AWESOME IDEA! I want one!
Dam good idea... Do it...
Bad idea
lol Scott! And Jared don't forget one can also pee on themselves to ward off attackers! lol
My grand kids play on my phone, I would not use this. I'd rather just use other self defense methods.
What a great product. When all the people are driving and trying to hide their cell phone from the police hopefully they taze themselves and run off the road.Good idea, an excellent way to promote population control.
I predict a rash of accidents from this device -- I can't even begin to imagine how many people are going to tase themselves pulling the device out of their pockets or purses!
It's a great idea--I carry a taser & my cell phone when I'm out for walks, this would be simpler than carrying two devices :)
Well if you can't afford a Nokia you need something to defend yourself...
I wouldn't want my neighbor to have one, Scary to make them so easily available!
Awesome.
simply doesn't replace the spikes on my boots
Wish they had it for droid or samsyng phones!
GREAT idea!
I can just imagine someone putting their iTazer in their pocket and accidentally setting it off, and it sparks their pocket lint causing the lint and subsequently their pants to catch fire, and then the phone starts burning and by this time you're scrambling frantically to get your pants off and throwing them on the ground, and then your iTazer's battery overheats and explodes like a miniature IED, causing significant trauma to your legs and lower body. The moral of the story is...clean out your pockets folks, or you may be walking around with no pants, or legs.
Trying to mentally picture myself at work and going down in a heart beat because my phone is in my pocket all the time.
I personally think none of us should be allowed to protect ourselves from even the most minor of injuries at the hands of other people. Just curl up in a ball and hope the police drive by.
Accident
I love it!!! just keep it away from the kiddos moms. This wouldn't be a good phone case for little kids to chew on though. lol
That's an accident waiting to happen. Most people can't properly use a weapon of any sort to begin with. I'll stick with my actual stun gun and pepper spray and yes, I've been taught have to use both correctly.
Dont videotape....tzzt...tzzt....me bro....
the number of people getting tazed pulling the phone out of their pockets will be hilarious.
I want one too.
Everybody will want one, and people will be tazed for looking wrong or for real reasons. I don't see how handing weapons to people is a good idea, this is a weapon, it is not a saftey device like mace. I herd way to many stories of rapes starting with a tazing. Just my cents.
I want one.
