Umpqua Dairy: Salmonella on containers, not in products

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Employees are still working their full schedules at Umpqua Dairy while the facility is shutdown due to a salmonella outbreak that prompted a recall of the company's milk and other beverages.

Umpqua ice cream products were not affected and are not subject to the recall.

Officials said the salmonella was not in the product but on the outside of the container.

The outbreak has sickened almost two dozen people in Oregon so far.

Employees are helping clean the facility during the shutdown, so the recall has not cost any of the 160 employees in Roseburg any wages.

Umpqua employees 250 people company wide.
