Products to help with that yard full of leaves

The EZ Leaf Hauler

By Herb Weisbaum

Fall leaves look great on trees, but when they hit your lawn it can be a chore to gather them up and get them into your waste bin.

Good Housekeeping tested a few products that should make the chore a bit easier.

The magazine says the Toro Ultra Blower Vac, which sells for about $70, is worth picking up. (www.toro.com)

This Toro Ultra Blower Vac is a great product because its electric, which makes it much easier to hold and maneuver while you're blowing leaves into a pile than a gas product," said Good Housekeeping Engineering Director Stacy Genovese.

"Gas products are usually better at doing these kinds of things. They have more power, but they're very bulky, very, very noisy. It automatically mulches all of your leaves into this bag that clips right on to it. So there's no bending over or hurting your back to get all your leaves in bags."

The Rank-N-Grab ($20; www.rakengrab.com) was also well received. It is designed like a tong to gather and scoop, so you don't have to strain your back.

"It was very easy to put together but it took a learning curve to try and figure out how to use it smoothly," said tester Kathleen Huddy. "But once you figure it out, it's very efficient."

Huddy also like the EZ Leaf Haule, ($25; www.ezleafhauler.com) which sets up like a tent and lets you move leaves and debris in one trip.

The Good Housekeeping tests found that the Leaf Hauler's nylon fabric held up after being outside for three weeks under various weather conditions.

And if you're bagging yard waste to be recycled, use biodegradable bags, like the Yard Bag Chute ($23; www.yardbagchute.com. ) Putting yard waste in plastic bags really messes up the system.
