If you're looking to cash in your precious metals, consumer experts warn: don't fall for fools gold.
Turn on cable television and you'll see commericials inviting you to send in your broken or used gold jewelry for cash. Several different companies promise good returns on your precious metal.
While the stock market has lost about 40 percent in the last year, gold is selling for $850 an ounce and trading within 15 percent of its highest price ever.
But the Better Business Bureau and consumer complaint Web sites have registered hundreds of complaints against mail in gold services. The biggest gripes: pricing discrepancies, misleading advertising and claims of lost shipments.
Consumer advocates says if you want a good rate of return on your scrap gold, shop around and do your research.
