Save more on Black Friday with a plan
EUGENE, Ore. -- If Black Friday bargains lure you to the stores this week, save time and money with these shopping tips.
Plan your attack early. Don't get up on Friday morning without first thinking about where you want to go and what you want to buy. Some shoppers take this day of shopping very seriously and those without a plan may not save as much money.
Purchase a copy of the local ads on Wednesday and go through them, tearing out only the items you want to purchase.
Next, create a list of stores you will be patronizing. Under each store heading, list the items you will buy. Some shoppers go to the extreme by grouping items together on the list that are located close together in the store.
As you are creating your list, keep in mind the sale times. For instance, Wal-Mart is offering specific savings between 5 and 11 a.m. Shoppers will want to hit the stores with the early sales first.
Also, consider gas mileage while saving money on Black Friday. Is Target across the street from Wal-Mart? If the store is on your list and close by, head there next.
Consumer rights are also important on this day of savings. Purchase gifts with a credit card so you'll have recourse if you want to return an item. Keep all receipts and consider also getting a gift receipt so you'll have another copy for each purchase.
Shop with your wallet, not with your eyes. If an item is not on your list of gifts, do not be deterred by a sale sign. Retailers prey on shoppers that make purchases simply because they believe it is a "good deal."
One more tip for saving money on Black Friday? Pack your own muffins and thermos of coffee. The food courts and fast food restaurants are also open and ready for business.
