Perfume makers accused of failing to report toxic ingredients
The Washington Toxics Coalition says a recent test of 20 perfumes used by tweens uncovered the presence of hormone-disrupting chemicals called phthalates in nine products.
The non-profit group says five companies selling the products failed to disclose the potentially harmful chemicals as required by this state's Children's Safe Products Act of 2008.
According to Washington Toxics Coalition Science Director Erika Schreder, seven of the perfumes were made by major retailers that are routinely frequented by young people in their late adolescence and early teens.
"It's very disappointing that companies whose products are adored by children are not only using toxic chemicals in their products, but failing to comply with the law and report them," Schreder said in a news release issued Thursday.
Schreder says she notified each of the companies requesting a response. Most replied that the specific fragrance products names were not intended to be used by children under the age of 12. The products, retailers and retailer response are included in Schreder's report.
Phthalates aren't the only chemicals they are failing to report. Â It's just one of thousands of chemicals used. Â The deception and harm is worse than the cigarette/cigarette smoke scandal. Â And all government agencies are in cover-up mode. Have to laugh at them saying it is not to be used by children under 12. If a child comes close to the product it than can be inhaled by any one and that includes babies. It is time they make all ingredients known and make it a law that no toxic ingredients are to be used. Because of these toxic products I no longer can live a normal life. No longer can go to others home. Have to miss out on parties and dinners and almost everything all due to people using toxins. They have been brain washed for so many years and we need more news coverage to get people to know what they are doing to them self and to all those around them. People just take a bath & do not mask yourself with toxins. If your home has a smell than clean the house and open the windows. The best thing is fresh air and it is free too. Remember when you make a choice to use perfume you are not only making that bad choice for yourself but for all those around you.Â
