AL ASAD, Iraq-- The chow hall tries to make the holidays festive with traditional Christmas food served at lunch and colorful streamers hanging over doorways.
At the medevac compound, flight operations specialist Sgt. Angela Altabef, 21, of Salem, Ore., took it upon herself to put up a tree, hang decorations, lights and other festive trimmings around the office.
“It feels like home. I love to decorate at home too. I’m the one that does it at my house, if it wasn’t for me there wouldn’t be any,” says Altabef. “Also it kind of got everyone else in the Christmas spirit.”
