COVINGTON, Wash. -- A man who allegedly raped a woman for several hours at knifepoint earlier this week is being sought by King County Sheriff's deputies.

The victim was an acquaintance of 51-year-old John Alan Carter, and on Monday night, detectives believe Carter lured the woman to a Covington home were the attack occurred, said Sgt. John Urquhart with the King County Sheriff's Department.

After the attack, Carter forced the victim to drive to an ATM at a Renton 7-Eleven and withdraw money from her account, Urquhart said, but the woman refused to get back in the car and Carter drove off.

Urquhart says Carter is currently on Dept. of Corrections supervision from a 2007 arrest and subsequent conviction. In that case, he approached an unknown woman in the Southcenter Mall parking lot and held a knife to her throat. He told her not to scream or she would be "hurt". The victim screamed anyway and she was cut by Carter before he fled, Urquhart said.

The Dept. of Corrections has issued an Escape from Community Custody arrest warrant for Carter, and charges from the sheriff's office charges are pending. He has additional felony convictions for Forgery and Auto Theft.

Carter is described as white, about 6 feet tall and 200 lbs. He has red/blond hair and brown eyes. He has a brown mustache, missing upper teeth, multiple tattoos on both arms and the tattoo "Robin" on one hand. He frequently wears glasses, and speaks with a slight lisp, Urquhart said.

The stolen car that Carter is believed to be driving is a 2008 Jeep Liberty, blue, with Washington license 293-XTS. If anyone sees Carter or the vehicle they should call the King County Sheriff's Office at (206) 296-3311 (24 hours) or 911.
