EUGENE, Ore. - When Erin Marie Williams graduated high school, her mother bought her a copy of Taste of Home magazine.

It has been a tradition ever since.

"It's some thing that my mom and I get to share together," said Williams. "Me and my mom get to talk about some of the featured recipes."

A few months ago, Williams spotted an add for a contest amongst those very recipes that caught her attention: A contest to find a holiday ambassador for Taste of Home magazine.

"I was like, I would really love to be that woman up there, and just like bring my talent or whatever," Williams said. "And be that person on stage, and make people smile."

So she put together a recipe and YouTube video for the contest and soon found herself as a finalist.

Up for grabs is a cash prize and a chance to represent the holidays.

If she wins, Williams told KVAL News she'll be traveling to appearances at Taste of Home events to share tips and tricks for holiday hosting.

It is an opportunity that has Williams very excited -almost as much as the chance to share the experience with her mom, who first introduced her to the magazine.

"Since I was a little girl she dreamed of going to Maui," says Williams, "I'm already saving up money to go to take my mom to Maui, but it's not cheap.  I'm only a waitress.  So I would take my mom to Maui immediately."

The winner of the contest is scheduled to be announced at the beginning of October.
