Training in Track Town: Walking 101
By Laura RillosEUGENE--Walking seems simple enough, but walking coach Tyler Burgess says most people need a little help getting on the right foot. "A lot of people when they walk think, oh I'll take a bigger step when I walk cause I'll go faster," said Burgess. But people show actually walk with smaller, quicker strides. Once you're got the stride right, but you might be stepping wrong.
"A lot of people will take a big step and walk on their heel like this," said Burgess. "But if you roll your body up over the ball of your foot, it's like you're walking downhill."
Now that your step is straightened out, add in the arms. "You get a lot of momentum by pumping your elbows back." For more information, visit Burgess' website. |
