Teen contracts meningitis at rave
EPHRATA, Wash. (AP) - Grant County health officials say a King County teen who attended a "rave" party Saturday near Vantage, Wash., contracted meningitis.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the 17-year-old is hospitalized in stable condition.
Anyone who attended the "Operation APEX '09" party is urged to see a doctor.
The brain infection is spread through close contact. Symptoms include a fever, headache and stiff neck. Bacterial meningitis can be treated with antibiotics, but severe cases can be fatal.
