Protest in Eugene against public option
By KVAL.com staffEUGENE, Ore. -- Opponents of the House Democrat's health care reform bill rallied against the plan Thursday outside the federal courthouse in Eugene, Ore. They waved signs protesting a plan that includes a "public option" where the government would provide an alternative to private health insurance. Susan Bell said she is self-employed and un-insured but went to the doctor and made arrangements to pay for her cancer surgery and radiation. "If this Obama-care health plan would have been in effect when I went in there I don't think I would have been treated because I'm 64 years of age and I'm at that borderline where I may not have been one of the people that would have gotten the coverage that I needed," Bell said. "I would have been denied treatment." Bell said there is no doubt the country needs health care reform, but she said it needs to be a plan that will correct problems and not cause even more problems. "But quite honestly you do not want the government involved in your health care," said Stuart Ferguson of Eugene. "Health care is the most personal thing about you and your life and you don't want that interfered with and be told where to go and who to see. You make that decision." |
