High school basketball game postponed due to illness

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - The high school boys basketball game against Cottage Grove has been postponed until next week because too many players are out sick, the school district said.

Tom Endersby with the Junction City School District said large numbers of students are out with flu-like symptoms, although there have been no documented cases of influenza.

The girls basketball game will go on as planned Friday. The boys will play next Tuesday.

Schools across the district are reporting above-normal absence rate, with more than 10 percent of the students staying home sick from several different grade levels.

The school said that they have no confirmed cases of influenza or norovirus, however they attribute the some of the absences to students feeling flu-like symptoms.

Students at Junction City HS said that their teachers have been emphasizing the fact that kids need to wash their hands often and well to prevent the spread of any illnesses this time of year.

Nearly a third of the students at Oaklea Elementary in Junction City were out sick this morning.
