BREMERTON, Wash. -- An elderly Bremerton woman recently took a bad fall inside her home, and it was a stranger's voice that kept her calm and got her the help she needed.

At age 86, Betty Crickmer still lives in her own home. She's recovering from a broken hip, which she says "hurts to even think about it."

Crickmer got up for the bathroom one morning, but soon found herself flat on the floor.

As she fell, she reached for a door knob, but was unable to get her balance and went down hard.

"I had to slide myself into the bedroom," she said.

That's where she had left her cell phone. She eventually found the phone, but her eyesight isn't what it used to be and she couldn't see the numbers to dial her daughter.

"And I just got to where I was pushing anything, and he answered," Crickmer said.

The voice on the other end said, "Edward Jones Investments, Don Logan speaking."

Crickmer told Logan she knew she had the wrong number and said she could feel him getting ready to hang up.

But instead of hanging up, Logan asked how he could help.

Recalling that day now, Crickmer recalls that Logan has what she calls a "beautiful baritone voice."

That voice became Crickmer's lifesaver. She rattled off her daughter's number. Logan called and medics were soon on the way.

Crickmer spent three nights in the hospital and a week in rehab, and now she wears a Life Alert panic button around her neck to call for help if she needs it.

She calls Logan her hero, but he says that's not the case.

"No, no, not at all," he said. "I could sense that this was not just a regular call and I have a tendency just to be patient."

The two recently met, and Logan gave Crickmer a big hug.
