CANYONVILLE, Ore. -- A Portland man is in the Douglas County Jail on multiple charges, after police stopped the vehicle they say he stole at gunpoint. Another masked man was allegedly with him, and remains at large.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to a call Friday around 9:30 p.m., in the parking lot of the Creekside Restaurant, where two men said they were the victims of a carjacking.
The men told police they were sitting in a white 2003 Ford pickup, when two masked men came up and ordered them out of the vehicle.
According to police, one of the suspects fired a shot into the cab, and although it broke a window, it did not strike either of the victims.
According to a release from the Sheriff's office, one of the men took the victim's pickup and the other drove off in a late model silver or grey Chevrolet pickup. Both vehicles headed north on Interstate 5.
As the men were fleeing the scene, one of them apparently struck another vehicle, being driven by a woman, 43, of California. She was not injured in the incident.
Police say that around 10:00 p.m. that night, they stopped the pickup that had been stolen, and took Angel Humberto Bustamante, 22, into custody. He was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of Robbery I, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Assault I, Criminal Mischief and Hit and Run.
police are still looking for the second suspect, and you are encouraged to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's office at 541-440-4471 if you have any information on the case.
