Roseburg police nab burglar in downtown business
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Police officers were called to a downtown Roseburg business Tuesday night, where they caught a Roseburg man who officers said was stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelery.
The owner of Roseburg Resale received a call from his alarm company Tuesday evening, telling him that the motion alarm was activated in his store.
After driving to the business, he saw a person inside, allegedly near the jewelery display.
Police were called to the scene, and around 9:00 p.m., entered the building and found Keith Allen Shepard, 42, of Roseburg. Police say he had approximately $3,500 worth of jewelery that he allegedly took from two different cases.
Officers say that Shepard had a small crowbar and screw driver in his possession at the time.
After consenting to a search of his vehicle found in the downtown parking garage, at a vantage point of the business on the second floor, police say they found more burglary tools and binoculars inside the Ford Ranger, which was registered to Shepard.
Shepard was arrested without incident and booked at the Douglas County Jail on charges of Burglary I, Theft I, Criminal Mischief II and Possession of a Burglary Tool or Theft Device.
