ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A completely remodeled home greeted a war veteran and his wife Sunday afternoon, after they had spent the last few days in a motel.

The Umpqua Valley Homebuilders picked the home of Ted Paillette, a Korean War veteran, to remodel in their Rebuilding Homes for Heroes program, and when Ted and his wife Georgia came driving up, they were thrilled at what they saw.

The association had worked on it all week, and completely refurbished their home.

A stunned Ted Paillette said, "Oh, this is wonderful. I sure didn't expect anything like this."

The homebuilders built a new deck on the front with a handicap ramp as well as a new deck on the back with a cover.

They re-landscaped around the home and the inside was also completely overhauled. The carpets were cleaned and furniture was moved out so that the inside could be painted too.

New furniture was brought in and all new appliances were installed including a new heat pump.

The Paillettes were kept away in a motel until the job was completed and came home to the finished product on Sunday afternoon.

Ted said he's not sure why he was picked, but he's thankful he was.
