ZOMBIES ATTACK? Hack whacks sign

EUGENE, Ore. - "You saw a what?"

The HOT note summed something up I've never seen, per se, in 13 some odd years of journalism:

"Tony says the zombie sign was turned off when he got there."

An Army Corps of Engineers project sign sent commuters - presumably in error - a warning about zombies in Eugene, Ore., during the early morning hours of Sept. 2, 2010.

This kind of stunt has shown up elsewhere but is new to Eugene, transportation officials told KVAL News.

No word yet on what the potential criminal penalties could be directed at the perps if charged, but instead of directing traffic or sitting idle, this sign warned folks to prepare for a zombie apocalypse.

Oregon has disaster plans for tsunami and volcano, but not zombies.

The likelihood that the sign was legit - nil.

By the time a KVAL photog could arrive on scene, the sign was off.
