HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. - An Asian family says they’ve been the target of hate crimes ever since they moved into their home last weekend.

A few days ago someone left a note saying they were going to burn down the Huynh’s house, and the family wants to know why they’re being targeted.

Every morning since they moved in, the Huynh’s have been waking up to racial slurs scrawled up and down the front and side of their house.

On Monday, “We saw a lot gasoline and matches … and a warning that they were going to burn down the house if we don’t move out,” said Brian Huynh. “I don’t know, but that’s kind of scary.”

It hasn’t been happening just at night. The vandals have even struck in the middle of the day.

The family has only been in the neighborhood less than a week and they are already thinking about putting cameras in and outside their house. On Thursday they had a security system put in.

But what has some neighbors concerned is why the family is being targeted because just across the street lives another ethnic family.

“My husband is Japanese and my kids are half Asian, and we have never had anybody do anything to us in our neighborhood before,” said Jaime Onchi. “We have parties here all the time (and) huge family gatherings.”

But with more police presence, the family and the neighborhood hopes the hate crimes will end.

In addition to the local authorities, the FBI will also be conducting an investigation.
