ROSEBURG, Ore. -- An accident in north Roseburg Wednesday afternoon took out a fire hydrant.

The driver of a Ford Ranchero said that his car stalled at the top of the hill on Amanda Street near Edenbower Boulevard, and he wasn't able to brake.

The car slid backwards down the hill, crashing through the side yard of a house and running over a fire hydrant.

The hydrant was completely removed, but the homeowner was glad that it was there, because it stopped the runaway vehicle from hitting his car.

Crews were able to shut off the water and remove the hydrant before water began leaking out.

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed in the incident.
