$250K lottery jackpot unclaimed: 'We’d love to give them their prize'

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Just about a month and a half into the new year, officials from the Oregon Lottery have had winners from $1 to a $1 million arrive at the Lottery headquarters in Salem to claim their prizes. However, there’s one prize-winner they haven’t heard from yet.

On Jan. 14, someone in Portland became the recipient of the Mega Millions drawing that produced a $250,000 Oregon Lottery winner.

“The problem is the winner hasn’t come forward yet and we’d love to give them their prize," said Ray Martin, Winner Awareness Coordinator at the Oregon Lottery.

The winning $250,000 ticket matched all five white balls, but not the MegaBall. The winning numbers were 2-15-17-33-35. The winning MegaBall number was 8. The winning ticket was sold in Portland, but the retailer selling the winning ticket will not be known until the prize is claimed. The winner has until 5 p.m. Jan. 16 of 2012 to claim their prize.

Lottery officials are wondering who could have that winning ticket and urge people to check that mysterious kitchen drawer, that pile of papers on your desk, the pockets on that jacket you only wear once in awhile, the glove box, sun visor and console in your vehicle, to see if you have some forgotten Oregon Lottery tickets lying around.

Maybe you had family or friends visiting on or around Jan. 14 who may have purchased Lottery tickets before leaving town.

Players can check all Oregon Lottery game tickets at any Oregon Lottery retailer. Players may use the check-a-ticket “Did I Win” terminal available at most Lottery retailers. Players can also visit the Oregon Lottery’s Web site at www.oregonlottery.org for the winning numbers.

The Lottery recommends that you always sign the back of your tickets with each Oregon Lottery game you play, to help ensure you can claim any prize you may win.
