U of O Athletes raise money for national tournament trip

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon Racquetball team is headed to the 2011 nationals, but only a portion of the travel expenses are covered by university funds. The rest of the cost comes out of the athletes pocket. That remaining amount can seem like a lot, especially when a small team means fewer people to pitch in. To make things a little easier Duck Athletes put together a tournament at Courtsports in West Eugene.
“We’ve been training all year for it and we work really hard. We’ve been here 3 or 4 times a week at the least, and we are really excited about it, so it would be a bummer if we don’t get to go.” says Hailey Miller, who’s ranked number 2 out of the 6 women on the team. However, with this and several other fundraising events they’ve held, Miller says they should have enough to cover their expenses.
This year’s National Racquetball tournament begins April 4th in Tempe Arizona. Last year the Ducks made it into 5th place at the tournament.
