12-year-old Washington boy dies following hiking accident

LILLIWAUP, Wash. - A 12-year-old boy has died following a hiking accident near the Lower Lena Lake trail on Saturday.

The boy's father identified himself as a doctor, and called 911 around 11 a.m. to report his son suffered a major head injury while they were hiking in the Olympic National Forest.

Search and rescue teams from three different counties worked together to carry the boy down the mountain.

The boy was struck by a tree, says the Mason County Sheriff, though details of the accident are still unclear.
