Oregon man accused of raping hitchhiker

SELMA, Ore. - A young woman hitchhiking to California said she was raped by a man who gave her a lift.
Sheriff's deputies in Josephine County arrested John Coad Dailey, 30, of Grants Pass on charges of first degree rape and first degree sex abuse.
The woman in her early 20s called 911 at 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, and reported she had been sexually assaulted.
She told deputies Dailey picked her up in Grants Pass and headed south on Highway 199. Between Selma and Cave Junction, he drove up Eight Dollar Road, sexually assaulted her and left at the scene of the crime in rural southwest Oregon. | Map
She was able to call for help and was taken from the scene by ambulance for treatment for her injuries.
A deputy spotted Dailey in Grants Pass just before 9 p.m. Friday and took him into custody.
