Sheriff: Shooting suspect turned self in, second man at large

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - One of two men wanted in the shooting of a Springfield man turned himself in to the Lane County Sheriff's Office at noon on Monday.

Nicholas Andrew Friend, 20, is in the Lane County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault and burglary.

A second man wanted in connection with the incident, David Robert Friend Jr., 25, is still at large. David also goes by the moniker “DJ.”
 
The sheriff's office is asking that anyone with information as to the whereabouts of David Friend call the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 682-4141.

The victim in the case was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. His condition is not known; hospital officials will no longer say whether or not he was even hospitalized, although law enforcement officials initially described his injuries as life-threatening.

Under federal privacy laws, patients can ask hospitals not to share their condtion much less indicate whether they are present in the hospital with representatives of the media.
