9 rescued from McKenzie River on Sunday
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Lane County Search and Rescue teams credit people wearing their life jackets for the good outcome of a rescue late Sunday afternoon.
The drama unfolded around 4:30 near the Bellanger Boat Landing.
Deputies say 9 people were floating the McKenzie River on inner tubes when they hit snags and logs.
Search and Rescue deputy, Paul Vitus, tells KVAL News, "They were ejected and swept off their floating devices they had put into the river. A couple of them were able to jump onto a
log, which you should do. The main thing is that they had their life jackets on, and I think that had a lot to do with the outcome today."
Vitus says the people only suffered some bumps and bruises. Authorities say the group was made up of kids ages 6 to 16 and adults.
