Police: DNA links man to rape

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. - A woman found naked and bruised in the grass on the side of the road in May told police she had been raped.

Now the man she accused is behind bars after police say DNA test results this week linked him to the crime.

Shawn Lee Coppock, 29, of Myrtle Creek faces charges of with first degree rape, sodomy and kidnapping, among other charges. He is being held in the Douglas County Jail on $1.5 million bail.

Police said the crime was an isolated incident.

"Walk your dog, take your walks, you're perfectly safe within reason," said Chief Don Brown. "This guy is now in jail, and I don't see him getting out."

The investigation started May 21 when police found the woman in the tall grass next to Division Street. She was naked, bruised, and told police she had been raped.

She told police she had met Coppock earlier in the day and that he took her to a secluded area near a creek and raped her.
