Bicyclist killed by car less than a block from home
EUGENE, Ore. - A woman who died after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle Monday night was less than a block away from home.
Diana Lindsey was Mingo Pelkey's neighbor. The 39-year-old was signaling and changing lanes when a car hit her from behind Monday night. She died from her injuries. Pelkey was wearing a helmet.
"Just heart breaking because she was very friendly and just a sweet sweet lady," Lindsey said. "Just really heart breaking. I wish I had gotten to know her better. That's the sad thing about something like this. You always regret that you didn't get to know someone better."
Pelkey was riding on River Road near Irving on Monday night. Lindsey said Pelkey biked everywhere she went.
"She was just always sweet and nice," Lindsey said. "I always saw her taking her recycling out. She rode her bike so I just wish I had known her better."
Investigators will meet with the district attorney later this week to decide if charges will be filed against the driver who hit Pelkey.
