Sweets for Sammy
SPRINGFIELD - It was cookies for a cause Saturday in Springfield. Sammy Dillan suffers from Leukemia.
Weekly chemo treatments at Dornbecker's in Portland are making for some heafty travel costs. Saturday, friends held a bake sale at Challet Village to help raise money for the family.
"He's a strong boy," said friend Stephanie Stallings. "I don't think I could have ever been through this. But, he is. The family is just an awesome family and that's why we're doing this."
"He's been my best friend for a long long time," said Tyson Sanjines. "He's been pretty sick."
The entire community chipped in. Local businesses donated whatever baked goods they could. Marie Calendars even offered up a few of their famous pies, all for a worthy cause. Saturday's event raised about $130. You can still make donations at any US Bank, just say you are there to help the Sammy Fund.
