Driver killed in crash with hay truck

MERLIN, Ore. - A California man died when he crashed into a truck pulling two trailers loaded with hay while trying to pass the rig.

State police have not released the name of the man, described as elderly, pending notification of his next of kin.

The crash happened Nov. 1 at 6:52 p.m. on Highway 39 west of Merlin in Klamath County, Ore.

The victim tried to pass the truck on the right side at an intersection, then crashed into the trailers.

Medics pronounced the driver dead en route to the Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls.

The truck's driver was uninjured during the crash.
