Conserving energy during winter
SPRINGFIELD - With the chilly nights we've been having many people are doing all they can to stay warm.
There are ways you can conserve energy around the house at little or not cost at all.
When the temperatures drop below freezing, one thing that is very important is to wrap up any exposed pipes, to avoid them from freezing and seal up the house.
Another area where you can shave the cost off your bill, keeping your thermostat at a cooler temperature when your sleeping or when your away. Newer thermostats allow you to program the settings.
"You can set your thermostat to sixty to sixty two degrees when your sleeping when your going to bed then you can have it warmed up in the house to sixty five to sixty-eight degrees when you get up in the morning and when you're away for work it can go back down," says Meredith Clark, Communications Manager, Springfield Utility Board.
It's also important to change your filter inside your furnace at least a couple times a year, so you can have good air flow through your home.
