Vehicles rescued from slide on Santiam Pass
SANTIAM PASS, Ore. - A landslide and six feet of snow came crash down on Highway 20 on Santiam Pass, blocking the road - and trapping motorists in two vehicles.
Transit workers on both sides of the pass responded to the scene and reached the trapped motorists. No one was injured.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said to expect a lengthy closure.
Motorists should avoid the area or expect long delays.
The story was similar on other routes into the Cascades, where a spring snow storm dumped inches - and in some case, feet - of new snow.
A truck crash on Highway 99 near Monroe, Ore., closed that route and required a haz-mat crew to resond to the scene to clean up.
Downed trees and powerlines, car crashes and other hazards were delaying traffic across the region Wednesday.
