Police: Robber changes clothes - in front of detective

EUGENE, Ore. - Police officers on a motorcycle and a bicycle cornered a man suspected of robbing a downtown bank a half hour earlier despite the suspect making a quick change of clothes, police said.

Israel Christopher Garza, 27, of Eugene faces a charge of robbery in the second degree.

Police got a report of a robbery at the U.S. Bank on W. 7th Avenue at 1:53 p.m. Tuesday. Officers responding to the robbery issued the suspect's description over police radio.

A detective working in the area spotted a man matching the description duck into a store, then exit and change his hat and shirt.

The detective radioed this information to other police, and two officers - one on a bike, the other on a motorcycle - located Garza and took him into custody as the probable suspect.

From robbery to arrest, less than 30 minutes transpired.
