Some businesses close - others stay open - during power outage

EUGENE, Ore. -- Thousands of EWEB customers were out of power Wednesday morning due to an equipment failure at their substation in the Valley River Center- Goodpasture Island Road area.

Several businesses along Valley River Way closed due to the power outage. "We can't do anything. So basically, everything came to a stopstill. We lost all our bread that we made this morning," said Sandy Gilbert, manager of Dickie Jo's.

Valley River Center was out of power and most stores were closed in the morning. Spokesperson Diana Bray says all power was fully restored at around 1 p.m.

"Not our typical Wednesday morning. Thankfully, it's not a holiday or back to school," said Bray.

"The computers are a big part of our business, because we get a lot of our orders through the internet. So we can't see what orders we have waiting for us," said Frank Kim of Edible Arrangements.
