Police: Army recruiter had sex with underage girl at mall

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - An Army recruiter confessed to having sex with a 17-year-old female recruit inside the mall office he supervises, according to police.
Russell Edward Miller, 33, faces arraignment Tuesday on a misdemeanor count of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor.
The Iraq war veteran admitted to police that he had sex with the girl in the recruiting office at Gateway Mall on April 11, Sgt. Dave Lewis told KVAL News.
A high school counselor reported the alleged incident after speaking to the girl. While the teen asked the counselor to tell no one, fearing it could harm her potential Army career, the counselor was required by Oregon law to report the allegations to police, Lewis said.
Miller took charge of the recruiting office in January. He told police he has been relieved of his duties by the Army in light of the allegations, Lewis said.
