LANE COUNTY - Sanipac is sending out notices to customers as a reminder that it is no longer accepting plastic bags.

If you take a look at the co-mingle collected Wednesday, there are still plenty of plastic bags mixed in.

There are several reasons for the change - plastic bags can get caught in the machinery, and it costs more to handle the bags than the benefits of recycling them.

Sanipac General Manager Mark Wall explained "It gets mixed up and ends up with paper or the wrong place becomes a contaminant when it gets to the papermill"

So what should you do with all of those plastic bags?

Wall recommends you take them back to the store.
