Backyard birds take center stage at Bawk celebration

EUGENE, Ore -- Crowing and clucking will compete with the symphonic sounds of the OBF at the inaugural Eugene Bawk Celebration in downtown Eugene.
The three-hour event is put on by The Eugene Backyard Farmer and showcases chickens raised in people's backyards. The Bawk Celebration has a number of activities, live music, food and a chicken beauty pageant.
Bill Bezuk, the owner of The Eugene Backyard Farmer said that keeping a backyard coop has become popular for homes in Eugene.
"Eugene could be known as Coop Town U.S.A." said Bezuk. "What better way to celebrate chicken culture than to have a Bawk Celebration.
Saturday's schedule of events:
4:00 Live Music.
4:30 Chicken Beauty Pageant.
5:00 A one act chicken skit.
5:15 Chicken poetry readings.
5:30 Name That Egg.
6:00 Music, Chicken Bingo, Crowing Contest and other fun activities.
