Affidavit describes sex offender's alleged attack on Oregon boy
Adam Lee Brown enters court.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — It was a Sunday morning, and an Oregon family was returning from a weekend camping trip when they got a flat tire.

They rolled to a tire store in Portland, but it was closed. While the family tried to figure out what to do next, the 10-year-old child had to go to the bathroom. He went next door to a fast-food restaurant. In

A few minutes later, the child was naked and bleeding, stabbed six times after fighting back against a predatory sex offender who followed him into the restroom, a probable cause affidavit says.

The details of the alleged July 1 attack are outlined in the affidavit filed by Portland police in the case of Adam Lee Brown, the Oregonian reported Tuesday.

Brown, 49, served 11 years in prison after a series of assaults in Roseburg. Prosecutors there alleged he was trying to infect children with the AIDs virus. No children are known to have been infected.

Brown was released in 2004 and has since been in and out of jail.

He has pleaded not guilty in the latest case to charges that include attempted aggravated murder, kidnapping and attempted sexual abuse. His bail is set at $2 million.

Brown has another court appearance Wednesday. The public defender who represented him at his first court appearance, Gareld Gedrose, did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday.

This is the sequence of events from the police affidavit, the boy providing details to Detective Mace Winter:

As the boy went into the bathroom at a Wendy's restaurant in northeast Portland, Brown followed, locked the door, pulled a knife and ordered him to disrobe.

Brown began to touch him, so the boy fought back. He was able to break the knife into two pieces. The boy estimated he was in the bathroom about 10 minutes before he was able to break free.

Meanwhile, his father had grown concerned and went to the restaurant, where he heard a commotion and his son's screams. He pounded on the restroom door and yelled for help.

The bathroom door opened for a moment, and the father saw a naked man covered in blood. Then it closed quickly. The father said he was ready to break it open when his son came running out, naked and bleeding. Then other patrons shut the door until the police arrived.

Since then, the family has asked for privacy so the 10-year-old can recover. He suffered six stab wounds, three to his neck. The most serious was in a muscle that helps people make facial expressions and required immediate surgery. He also suffered leg and hand cuts.

Brown was arrested after a two-hour standoff. Two fires had been set in the restroom, investigators said.

Brown told police he was not interested in "suicide by cop," according to the affidavit, and at one point asked for a phone to call his parents. He said he wanted to tell them he was headed back to prison.

Police asked him why he thought he was headed to prison, the affidavit said, and he replied: "Well, it looks suspicious because I hurt the kid."
