Veneta girl makes care packages for underprivileged kids

VENETA, Ore. - When you first step into the Prieto family's garage, it looks more like more like the closet of a supply store.

"Our garage is being taken over," Sheri Prieto said.

The garage is filled with towers of Tupperware, piles of paper, and totes of toiletries.

The 8-year-old girl behind the massive collection of school supplies and toiletries is their daughter, Autumn.

Autumn is stuffing care packages for underprivileged kids in third world countries she doesn't even know.

"I just really want to make them happy because they have nothing," Prieto said.

Since Prieto was five, she's been sending boxes full of supplies.

"Every year we sent about 2 boxes," Prieto said.

This year, the 8-year-old decided to take it to a whole new level.

"I know that I'm going to hit over 100, I just know," Prieto said.

Prieto is at almost 70 care packages.

"It's just a wow moment," Prieto said, "to see all these boxes, and that I made them. It just makes me really proud of myself."

With each care package Prieto stacks, she said it is all about doing something bigger than herself.

"They're going to be so happy and they're going to keep that box for their whole entire life," Prieto said.
