Fishermen and loggers get in a brawl in Astoria
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — An argument between fishermen and loggers at an Astoria tavern turned into a street brawl.
Police responded to Annies Uppertown Tavern Saturday night on a report of at least 20 people fighting in the street.
The Daily Astorian reports the dispute began with a bachelor party in the bar for a group of loggers.
They argued with fishermen about which occupation was better and which job paid more money.
The bartender told them to take it outside.
The fight broke up when officers arrived.
No one was arrested because of what police called "mutual combat."

Look out, there is a new feud and it doesn't include just police and firefighters... I have heard of this happening when I was a child, but its been awhile. I don't know which side to choose, considering I am from a logger family but my future bro in law is a fisherman. These men have balls and I can tell they are true Oregonian's because no one took a gun out or stabbed someone in the back like wusses from other states tend to do (*couch couch* California). I can see that a few people on here have their panties in a bunch over comments about Oregonian's so I am adding a little fuel to the fire :)
@KenzieDogg Reminiscent of the days when Sailors and Marines, or Army and Airforce used to duke it out saying one was better than the other. Like you I am glad they were just duking it out, sometimes boys will be boys, no need to get guns or knives involved.
This comment section resembles this news story....go figure.
Well...  haven't seen or heard of this for so many years..forgot there was still the "FEUD" between the two groups.. this was a common place occurrence most of my life..The Tavern I really remember that had so many bar room fights over this same issue was in Charleston,Oregon.Seemed like every weekend this went on... The good times.. are long gone... lol
This is why Oregon is still great , we have rugged individualists in hardworking careers who still know how to blow off steam without shooting people, robbing them or killing their family members. My money is on the Loggers :)
The behavior of these morons is shameful and embarrassing, and makes all Oregonians look bad. It is unfortunate that none were arrested or fined.
@mackenzie0158  Odd.. back in the day.. this kind of behavior was considered to be the way things were settled.. Fist fight it out..unlike the current behavior chicken s%*t way its now dealt with...shooting ppl on the drive by or just plain shooting ppl..This does not in any way reflect on Real natural born Oregonians and look bad.. we sorta kinda like that they got in a brawl and took it outside and SETTLED IT..like it should be done//just like back in the good old days.. Maybe if you don't like it so much here..you could move back from where you came..I can assure you..it does not make me look bad..or any of my family members or friends that were born and raised in this state
@Whitehawk @mackenzie0158 Remember PE in high school, we had a PE teacher that kept a pair of 16 ounce boxing gloves. When two guys got caught in a fight, it was down to the PE room, dress down and lace on the gloves. Ever try to swing 16 ounce gloves for 3 or 4 minutes. That usually settle everything. Some of these guys even became best friends. Too bad things are like they are today, shoot, stab, ridicule, sue, vandalize you name it.
@mackenzie0158 Wow. Really? Should they have rioted and shot each other instead?  Let's not pussify everyone, okay? These are MEN! They should be able to act like it. Please...go buy yourself a dress.
@mackenzie0158 yeah it makes us look bad we should be more like Los Angeles where they rape and murder when there is nothing on tv (the spanish channel )
@mackenzie0158 YOU... have not been in Oregon very long... this has been going on since I was a child, and that was well over 50 yrs ago..
Whitehawk: When you were born, I was attending Junior High School in Eugene where I have been living all my life. I was born in Roseburg, and because my father was pipefitter who constantly moved around, I lived in many cities throughout Oregon. He also worked in the woods, in sawmills, plywood mills, and sawshops at several different blue-collar, union jobs. I also worked at Weyerhaeuser in Springfield and Cottage Grove, where my grandfather and father had worked, while putting myself through college. I know about blue-collar work and workers. Don't try and tell me that to be a true Oregonian you have to drink yourself into a stupor, and then try to beat the guy next to you to a bloody pulp. That has nothing to do with being an Oregonian, and everything to do with being immature and stupid. And Whitehawk, you are correct--there always has and probably always will be idiots living in Oregon that drink too much and behave like children. However, mental midgets like that are becoming fewer and fewer in number and will eventually disappear.
@mackenzie0158 Mckenzie0158... I did not say that to be a true Oregonian one needs to drink themselves into a stupor..I grew up in Valsetz..in the heart of logging country.. I don't know when you think I was born but it was after 1950 and before 1954, is all I'm gonna say..I did state that the bar brawls between loggers and fishermen have been going on as long as I can remember. It esp was common in places like Coos bay and Reedsport, where there was logging and fishing together in the same area.I sorta resent that You make claim that I said folks have to drink themselves into a stupor to be a true Oregonian.. I said nothing of the kind
@Whitehawk  @mackenzie0158 Actually Douglas County and Eugene make Oregon look bad. :)
