Folks react to Obama's visit

MCARTHUR COURT - Obama mania has swept Oregon the past few days. Saturday, the Senator and Presidential hopeful is in Medford but Friday, he was here in Eugene.

"It's beautiful. It's gorgeous," says Senator Barack Obama while he describes his visit in Oregon. "The only thing I've missed is a nice drive along the Coast."

Obama is in Oregon! Standing for change - a change he says the American people can believe in.

Change has been the theme of Senator Barack Obama's campaign since day one and thousands beared long lines and packed Mac Court to capacity just to hear this Presidential hopeful speak.

Dr. Pamela Wible, an Obama supporter says, "I gave him a t-shirt just like this and I rubbed his head like a genie. I was screaming so loud! And he was really into it."

Obama's main points included the usual suspects: health care, ending the war in Iraq and the economy. But he also touched upon his recent race speech which he calls an example of distraction in politics, embraced his endorsement by Governor Richardson and also took a moment to respond this this ad put out by the Clinton camp.

The commercials says, "It's 3 a.m. and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?"

Obama says, "This war in Iraq was unwise. We have three candidates left for President. One thought this was a bad idea. That is who you want answering that phone call at 3 a.m."

We also got our chance to speak with the Senator and since we were at the U of O, asked about college education. He told us, "We're going to give a four thousand dollar tuition credit to every student every year so they won't have to take out 20,000 30,000 40,000 thousand dollars worth of debt a year to go to college." That's with the hopes those students give back by serving their community.

Still, not everyone we met agrees with this Presidential hopeful. Student Demic Tipino McCain Supporter "I think he needs to give us more substance. I think McCain has clearer plans."

But when Friday night's speech was all said and done, those we talked to who came in support of this change weren't changing their minds.

Obama supporter Lydia Garrett says, "I am so in agreement with him. It's so time to take care of our veterans. It is so time to stop the lies!" Adds Yible, "Everyone was crying in this room. We were so touched."
