Landslide means good news for businesses

Oakridge -

During the snowy months Oakridge business owners depend a lot on winter sports, but this year instead of welcoming tourists and skiers, they're turning people away.

If your looking for place to stay in Oakridge good luck, between now and June, all motels in town are booked solid.

"It's not normal activity granted we have the skiers coming through town but that's on the weekends when they're on the way to Willamette Pass, these guys are here 24 seven," says Gordon Zimmerman Oakridge City Administrator.

Zimmerman is talking about repair crews, they've been in town since the end of January cleaning up a landslide Southeast of Oakridge that crippled train travel.

Ever since, all five motels in town have been packed. Candis McMurtie manager of the Blue Wolf Motel says the called started to come in and the guys showed up and its just been a real boost.

Employees at the Trailhead Coffee House may have to wake up and bright early, opening the restaurant at four thirty in the morning, but they say it's worth it compared to what they could have faced.

As for the slide no word yet on finishing the cleanup.
There's no official report on the oakridge boom... but one business owner told us her numbers have doubled compared to this time last year.
