Eugene@150: Birthday bash for the Emerald City
EUGENE, Ore. -- A day of fun and festivities was held at the Hult Center Saturday to mark the final day in a week-long celebration of Eugene's 150th birthday.
Music, dancing, kind words and cake filled the Hult Center atrium Saturday morning after a last minute venue change from Skinner Butte Park.
Hundreds came out to celebrate the city's Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary). Jan Bohman, community relations director with the City of Eugene helped to welcome people to the celebration of their unique community.
"It's a very special place in lots of ways … both naturally and because of all the energy that people put in here." Bohman said. "We have a lot of amazing people who are attracted to this place and contribute a lot."
KVAL's Tom Adams was the emcee for Saturday's birthday bash. He has been doing a series of historic portraits of Eugene's vibrant culture as a tribute to the landmark anniversary.
"Eugene has just so many historical pearls … we had to do a little digging but we found 'em, and it's a great story to tell."

Many people from the Lane County Historical Society and Museum volunteered a lot of time for Eugene @ 150 and got NO RECOGNITION for it just because they didn't donate money.
