Government meetings are open to the public in Oregon. Lane County officials propose cutting sheriff's deputies and other jobs to help even out an $83 million budget deficit.

EUGENE, Ore. - The Lane County Budget Committee laid down the facts in the so-called doomsday budget at a public meeting Tuesday night. At least 50 concerned citizens attended the meeting, and 25 signed up to speak to the committee.

Citizens who spoke seemed most concerned about proposed cuts to public safety departments and animal services.
