By KVAL Web Staff

EUGENE, Ore. - As county budget hearings continue, the county's animal control agency takes another step towards ceasing operations.

Lane County Animal Services stopped impounding animals May 6. The agency plans to stop responding to calls and issuing citations May 26.

The proposed county budget for 2008-2009 cuts animal services from the general fund.

A hearing on the portion of the budget that includes animal services starts at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in Harris Hall in the Lane County Public Services building.

Public testimony starts at 8 p.m.
