EUGENE, Ore. - The latest repair tab for Eugene streets is $173 million.

There isn't even close to that much money for the project, but city officials said they are trying to stop it from getting worse.

The Eugene Budget Committee worked May 7 on a new proposal to set aside an additional $1.5 million per year for the next three years from the general fund to go to street repairs.

City councilors are also set to meet early next month to work on a proposed $81 million bond issue for streets. The bond would go to Eugene voters in November if approved by the council.
