Rash of bus wrecks sparks concern

By Andrew Segal

Seven students were injured, a bus driver was hospitalized and the driver of a car was killed in four separate school bus crashes in Oregon this week in Roseburg, Glide, Philomath and Scappoose.

So how do Eugene and Springfield school districts make sure their drivers are safe? And do they monitor the driver's personal driving records?

All school bus drivers lose their license from the state when they get 31 points or negative marks on their record.

The Eugene School District keeps drivers behind the wheel until they lose their license.

Springfield School District officials said they discipline drivers but have no specific number of incidents taht would lead to dismimssal.

The Bethel School district contracts with a private bus company, which does the monitoring.
